My Process

These paintings begin without a plan. I allow watercolor to flow, mix and dry freely, following the marks, blooms and edges that emerge by chance. From these abstract beginnings, I gradually discover streets, buildings, landscapes and imagined places.

Rather than depicting a specific location, each work is an exploration of the space between accident and intention, where spontaneous marks become fragments of architecture and memory. The resulting scenes exist nowhere in particular, yet often feel strangely familiar.

Watercolour Exploration

Working primarily in watercolour, I aim to capture the character of a place with as few marks as possible. Rather than describing every detail, I focus on creating a sense of light, texture, and mood through intentional brushwork and confident value relationships.

My work challenges conventional ideas of composition, exploring how energy, tension and visual interest can emerge beyond established compositional rules. Rather than relying on traditional frameworks, I aim to create paintings that engage the viewer through colour, form and presence, demonstrating that a painting can be compelling, dynamic and complete without conforming to accepted compositional theory.

My current journey as an artist is one of greater clarity and purpose, learning to make each brushstroke count, embracing simplicity, and allowing the painting to communicate through suggestion as much as description.
